THE REST OF THE STORY
• In the top of the first, Lions pitcher Hayden Paukstis walked
David Preziuso (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy),
Jack Pistner (Ellicot City, Md./Centennial, and
Kyle Miller (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) to load the bases, and groundouts by
Matthew Peipher (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Twp.) and
Tristan Neels (San Diego, Calif./Francis W. Parker) brought in two runs for the Bullets. Gettysburg pitcher
Connor Sikora then made short work of the first two Lions batters, before Roman Berretta hit a triple. With two outs, Ethan Karel flied out to end the first inning.
• Paukstis struck out the next two batters in Gettysburg's order, but an error by the Lions allowed
JR McCloskey (Huntington Station, N.Y./Chaminade) to reach first. McCloskey then stole second, and another Lions error gave Preziuso the opportunity to advance to second, while McCloskey hit home plate. A Pistner single brought Preziuso in to make it a 4-0 Bullets ballgame.
• An error brought Neels to second, and a sacrifice fly by
Mabret Levant (Lakeville, Pa./Wallenpaupack Area) brought Neels in for the first of Gettysburg's six runs in the third inning. Seibert was walked, and McCloskey brought him in with a double. Another error by the Lions got Preziuso to second and McCloskey home. Pistner was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second, and a single by Miller sent Preziuso home. Peipher was walked, and Neels finished up the top of the third for the Bullets with two RBIs to lead 10-0.
• Sikora's third inning of work resulted in two groundouts and a strikeout, and four walks plus a single by
Aaron Kirby (Sandy Hook, Conn./St. Joseph) keyed another three runs for the Bullets in the top of the fourth.
• Levant singled in the top of the fifth, and a Lions walk and error loaded the bases. Preziuso brought home Levant on a groundout, and a double by Murphy scored two more Bullets runs.
• After a Bullets pitching change, four Lions were walked to score them their first run of the day. A double-play yielded Albright's second run to make the score 16-2, before Domenic Borelli hit a popup that was caught at third base.
• Both teams made short work of the sixth inning, as the Lions caught a Bullets popup and fielded a groundout, and pitcher Lukas Khandagle struck out the third Bullets' batter. The Lions also suffered a strikeout and two outs by second base and first base.
• Two walks, one hit by pitcher, and a fielder's choice brought another Bullet home, and a sacrifice fly earned the Bullets another run. In the top of the eighth, a balk and Murphy single made it 19-2.
• The Bullets scored their final run of the day after
Matt Nichols (White Plains, N.Y./Byram Hills) tripled and was brought in by a groundout.
