THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg had two three-run innings and a six-run bottom of the eight to defeat Thiel, 14-1 in their last spring break game.
THE LEADERS
•
Nathan Masteralexis (Amherst, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings with three strikeouts and only one run allowed.
•
Jack Pistner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) had a 3-for-5 day, including one triple. He also scored one run and had two RBIs.
•
Preston Toothman (Orlando, Fla./William R. Boone) was 2-for-5 at the plate, with three runs scored and four RBIs.
FOR THE FOES
• Seth Johnson led Thiel with a 2-for-4 day, and three fielding assists.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• A quick
Jack Pistner triple in Gettysburg's first offensive inning paved the way for the Bullets' first run of the game. Thiel tied the game in the top of the second with their only run of the day, as a single, double, and groundout advanced Mike Sittig to home.
• A walk and stolen base for
David Preziuso (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy) put him on third base, and a fielding error by Thiel brought him home for the Bullets' second of the game in the bottom of the third. In the next inning, Gettysburg made it a 5-1 lead, powered by singles by Toothman,
JR McCloskey (Huntingdon Station, N.Y./Chaminade), Preziuso, and Pistner.
• In the bottom of the fifth, Gettysburg capitalized on a Thiel error to bring in two runs, and McCloskey stole second and Pistner singled to made it an 8-1 ballgame.
• Thiel held Gettysburg off until the bottom of the eighth, where the Bullets went off for their final six runs. Four walks scored the first run of the inning, and a Toothman single brought in two more. A sacrifice fly by
Jack Burke (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) and
Emmanuel Ajewole (Floral Park, N.Y./Stony Brook School) made the score 13-1, and a groundout for the Bullets allowed the final runner to come home for a 14-1 victory.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Gettysburg tallied 10 hits to Thiel's six.
• Ajewole was one of two Bullets, along with Pistner, with an extra-base hit.
