THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a pitchers' duel for seven innings, Gettysburg got out of the top of the eighth inning without allowing a run.
Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial) started the inning at second base. After she stole second, a fielder's choice up the line put runners at the corners. Pinch-runner
Alyna Balewitz (Kendall Park, N.J./Lawrenceville School) stole second to take off a potential double play. After a groundout and a strikeout,
Bailey Quinn (Hanford, Calif./Robinson Secondary School [Va.]) dropped down a bunt on the first pitch she saw for the game-winning RBI.
• The second game against Penn State-Beaver was called with two outs in the top of the seventh inning and declared a 3-all tie.
Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial) led off the home first with a walk before stealing second, taking third on a passed ball and scoring on a
Giovanna Komst (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) double to left for a 1-0 lead.
• A Valentina Sandoval walk, sacrifice bunt, Chloe Coleman single and squeeze play tied the game in the top of the second. A Bre Thomas single to the gap gave the Lions a 2-1 edge one batter later.
• O'Leary singled to lead off the bottom of the third then stole second and scored from third on a
Jess Campana (Brick, N.J./St. John Vianney) RBI groundout to tie the game once again.
• Coleman doubled in the fifth before moving to third on a bunt single and scoring on an errant throw for a 3-2 lead. Gettysburg got the run back in the bottom of the frame with a
Nikki Caesar (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) walk and stolen base and back-to-back sacrifices from O'Leary and Komst.
