THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg raced out to a 7-1 start in the first 17:38 and never looked back, toppling No. 24 Christopher Newport in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
THE LEADERS

Caroline Sullivan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) led the Bullets with three goals and four assists on the afternoon. She also had three ground balls and one draw control.

Katie Fullowan (Lebanon, N.J./North Hunterdon) contributed a game-high four goals on six shots. She also had two draw controls and was 4-for-4 on free-position shots.

• Julia Iapicca and Maelyn Eversole scored two goals each to lead the Captains.

• Just 3:08 into the game,
Katie Fullowan connected on her first free-position tally of the game before adding a second from the 8-meter arc just 2 minutes, 33 seconds later. Then,
Jordan Basso (Rye, N.Y./Rye) took over, scoring a pair of unassisted tallies 79 seconds apart for a 4-0 lead with 7:16 to play in the opening quarter. Kendall Krause broke up the shutout on CNU's first shot of the game with 6:30 on the clock.
Caroline Sullivan found a cutting
Gabi Connor (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) in front of the cage, who was able to finish high to push the lead back to four just shy of a minute later.
• Fullowan netted her third free-position tally just 26 seconds into the second quarter. Just a couple of minutes later,
Emily Crane (Upper Marlboro, N.J./Montclair) powered through the middle of the defense and finished a bouncer. With 1:53 to play in the opening half, Sullivan dished off her third assist of the opening half, finding
Julie Breedveld (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) in front. The rookie worked toward the cage and just beat the possession clock buzzer for an 8-1 lead at the break.
• Maelyn Eversole scored twice in the opening two minutes of the third quarter to close the margin to 8-3 but the Bullets responded with four in a row to stretch the lead to nine after 45 minutes. Free-position markers from Fullowan and Sullivan 1 minute, 13 seconds apart extended the lead back to seven with 6:38 remaining. Sullivan then connected with Crane once again with 2:20 to play before earning another free position with one second playing. Sullivan took one step and fired it past the keeper for a 12-3 lead.
• The teams traded tallies in the fourth quarter for the final nine-goal margin. Julia Iapicca booked a Basso-to-Sullivan connected with a pair of solo runs. A pair of rookies got into the box score with 3:10 to play.
Dillon Troy (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) fired to a dashing
Maddie Passarello (West Chester, Pa./Unionville), hitting her in stride for a 14-5 lead. After Madi Rozgonyi hit a free-position,
Kelly O'Connor (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) hit Connor with 62 ticks left for the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Gettysburg finished with a 32-18 advantage in shots and won 14 of 24 draw controls.

Lily Macatee (Street, Md./North Harford) finished with seven draw controls and three caused turnovers.
• Nine different players recorded a point for the Bullets.
•
Jordan Basso extended her streak of games with multiple goals to 18 straight with her two-goal, one-assist day.
NEXT UP
With the victory, Gettysburg moves on to the second weekend of the NCAA tournament and will take on No. 2 Washington and Lee in the third round on Saturday. The site and game time have yet to be announced. Fourth-ranked Salisbury and No. 10 York (Pa.) will meet in the day's other game at that regional site next weekend.
