Gettysburg College Athletics

Tonight's season opener marks the second meeting between Gettysburg (0-0) and Goucher (0-0) in a series that dates back to 2022. The Gophers won the only previous meeting 2-0 last season in Towson.

WHEN LAST WE MET: Despite Gettysburg controlling play for the majority of the contest, Goucher was able to capitalize twice in the final 30 minutes for a 2-0 win in the season opener for both teams last season. LAST TIME OUT: Gettysburg concluded a 6-7-5 campaign in 2022, appearing in the Centennial Conference tournament. The Bullets exited the tournament and concluded the season with a 4-0 loss at Swarthmore in the first round. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

BACK FOR MORE: Gettysburg returns two of its top three goal scorers from last season. Jordan Weinberg led the team with four goals while Jalia Musah added three tallies. In 2023, the Bullets will look to generate more offense after ranking ninth in the Centennial last year in scoring offense with just 16 goals in 18 games. With 20 newcomers to the program, including a pair of transfers, in addition to a wealth of returning experience, Gettysburg will have numerous options to help the work up front.

DEVELOPING FOR THE FUTURE: The expansion of the 2023 Gettysburg soccer roster to 39 players was an intentional move by the program. In addition to a full slate of varsity games, there will be five developmental games to give younger players in the program more opportunities to compete.  

LAST TIME OUT: Goucher concluded an 8-7-3 year last season with an ECAC tournament appearance. The Gophers dropped a 3-0 decision to FDU-Florham in the semifinals. (Full Recap) (Box Score)

WHAT'S IN STORE FOR AN ENCORE?: Goucher reached the eight-win mark in 2022 to record its highest single-season win total since 2015 when the Gophers also posted an 8-7-3 mark. Goucher did it on the back on a solid defensive showing, posting a 1.00 team goals-against average for its best defensive showing in more than a decade. Marissa Spacht, who returns to backstop the Gophers in goal, played all 1,620 minutes between the pipes, posting nine shutouts in 18 games. 

SPLIT DECISION: Goucher had four players register multiple goals last season. Half of those four players return to the squad in 2023. Jordan Wood tied for the team lead with three goals in her first collegiate season while Tatyana Jimenez is also back after two goals last season, including one against the Bullets in last year's opener.
