THE SKINNY STORY
Two impressive Gettysburg goals, one in each half, stood up as the only goals of the game as the Gettysburg offense controlled play and the defense worked to shut out a Catholic team that was averaging 1.67 goals per game.
THE LEADERS
•
Michael Sack (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Harriton) came off the bench in the first half and netted Gettysburg's first goal of the game, and the first of his career, in the 32nd minute.
•
Chase Sempervive (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) gave Gettysburg the insurance goal just over three minutes into the second half.
•
Kevin Muhic (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) made five saves to earn his first clean sheet of the season.
FOR THE FOES
• Kwaku Marfo-Sarbeng led the Cardinals in shots with five.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Catholic and Gettysburg traded shots for the first 30 minutes of the game, splitting possession time fairly evenly. However, in the 32nd minute,
Aidan Muller (Cape Town, South Africa/Putnam Science Acadamy [Conn.]) got a pass to
Michael Sack, who snuck around his defenders and created a scoring opportunity, blasting the ball from far out to net the first goal of the night and the first of his collegiate career. McDaniel tried to counter, taking four shots in the final 13 minutes of the half, but none were on target.
• Domenico Caltabiano had the first good look for McDaniel only three minutes into the second half, but
Kevin Muhic made a diving save to keep the Bullets out of trouble. Just 90 seconds later,
Nur Adhikarie (Cape Town, South Africa/Taft School [Conn.]) cleared the ball out of Gettysburg's defensive end with a kick that landed right near the feet of
Chase Sempervive. Sempervive then ran up on the ball and drew Catholic goalie Owen Allegro out of the cage, and the junior forward lifted a shot up over Allegro's head and into the cage for the second goal of the game.
• The Gettysburg defense kept the Cardinals caged for the rest of the night, shutting down many scoring opportunities, and Muhic made four saves to preserve the shutout.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Catholic doubled up on Gettysburg in shots, 20-10, but only five of Catholic's shots were on target. Four of Gettysburg's 10 were on the mark.
• The Cardinals held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
•
Chase Sempervive's goal was his team-leading third of the season.
