THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg turned a free kick into an opportunity to break through a stout McDaniel defense and notch a 1-0 win.
THE LEADERS
•
Hannah Kernis (Wall, N.J./Wall Twp.) recorded the game-winning tally for the Bullets.
FOR THE FOES
• Lauren Hoolahan made three saves in goal for the Green Terror.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a first half that tilted slightly in the host Bullets' favor, Gettysburg was awarded a free kick just on the McDaniel side of midfield in the 50th minute.
Jordan Weinberg (Jacksonville Beach, Fla./Winchester [Mass.]) sent the ball to the top of the box where a 50/50 ball bounced off a defender's head and to
Hannah Kernis' feet. The freshman lined it and drilled a low-liner into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
• The Bullets withstood some offensive pressure from the Green Terror the rest of the way that saw the visitors ultimately outshoot their hosts 15-1 in the second 45 minutes.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Freshman
Hannah Kernis registered her first collegiate point with the game-winning goal.
• McDaniel finished the game with a 19-7 advantage in shots and 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
•
Alex Jurow (Boonton, N.J./Parsippany Hills) made three saves in net for the Bullets to earn her first career shutout. It was Gettysburg's first clean sheet a scoreless draw with Muhlenberg in last season's regular-season finale.
