THE SKINNY STORY
Johns Hopkins, ranked 22nd in the latest D3football.com poll, racked up 582 yards of total offense to record a 51-7 win over Gettysburg.
THE LEADERS
•
Brian Smith (Fredericksburg, Va./St. John Paul the Great) led the Bullets with his first career double-digit tackle game, recording 12 on the night.
•
Rocco Abdinoor (Edgewater, Md./St. Mary's Annapolis) had the lone score of the night on a 20-yard run.
FOR THE FOES
• James Rinello completed 18 of 25 passes for the Blue Jays, amassing 272 passing yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball eight times for 41 yards.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Johns Hopkins used six plays to move the ball inside the Gettysburg 10 on its opening drive but it stalled there and the Blue Jays had to settle for a 27-yard Brad Paxton field goal and 3-0 lead with 12:21 showing. The Blue Jays defense forced a three-and-out before the offense paid off a 6-play, 65-yard drive with an Andrew Rich 12-yard touchdown up the middle for the running back's first of two scores on the night with 8:05 remaining.
• The second quarter started with a 20-yard James Rinello-to-PJ Scales touchdown and 17-0 lead. Johns Hopkins later added a 38-yard Geoff Schroeder catch-and-run screen pass on a fourth-and-5 to make it 24-0 with 4:45 to play in the opening half. Paxton added a 20-yard field goal as the half expired to make it 27-0 at the break.
• The third featured long drives by both teams. Gettysburg twice converted a fourth-and-1 on the opening march – the second of which
Rocco Abdinoor pulled on a read option and took around the left side 20 yards to make it 27-7 with 9:01 to play. The Blue Jays responded with to the 12-play march with a nine-play drive of their own, consuming 5:09 before Paxton had to hit a 30-yarder for his third field goal of the night with 3:45 to play.
• Johns Hopkins added three rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Rich scored from 12 yards out with 10:37 to play then Ty Pugliano scored from one yard out and 24 with 6:47 and 1:51, respectively.
THE INSIDE STORY

Nate DeLorenzo (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) and
Anad Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Riverview) had eight tackles each. Charles added a pass breakup.
•
Peter Schelling (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) rushed for 53 yards on six carries, averaging 8.8 yards per rush.
•
Rocco Abdinoor threw for just 86 yards on 12 of 33 passing but ran the ball 13 times for 42 yards and the score.
