THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg started off a 3-0 win at McDaniel with a 25-8 first-set victory before wrapping up the sweep with a 25-13 victory.
THE LEADERS
•
Mary Huegel (Marlboro, N.J./Colts Neck) led the Bullets with seven kills and just one error on 11 attempts to hit .545 while also adding five blocks and two aces.
•
Alycen Radolovic (Willoughby, Ohio/Beaumont School) posted a team-high eight kills.
•
Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) had a team-high 14 digs to go with seven kills and two blocks.
FOR THE FOES
• Katherine Taveras led the Green Terror with 14 digs and one ace.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Holding a 7-5 lead in the opening set,
Erin Gonzalez and
Mary Huegel put down back-to-back kills to stretch the lead to 9-5 before an error made it 9-6.
Clare Farrell (Livingston, N.J./Academy of St. Elizabeth), however, had a kill to start a 12-0 run that pushed the lead to 21-6 en route to the 25-8 victory.
• The second set featured nine ties and eight lead changes. Trailing 16-12, alternating
Alycen Radolovic kills and Huegel aces tied the set at 16-all. A
Gianna Galli (Demarest, N.J./Northern Valley Demarest) block and McDaniel error gave Gettysburg an 18-16 lead but the Green Terror responded with three in a row to take a one-point lead. Radolovic, however, put down another kill to start a 5-0 counter and the Bullets finished the set on a 7-1 run to take a 25-20 victory.
• Five straight points allowed Gettysburg to open up a 5-1 lead in the third set before another 6-0 run later in the set stretched the advantage to 15-7. After McDaniel closed to within 17-13 on the final of Nia Roberts' seven kills,
Catherine Holtz (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) put down a kill to start a 8-0 run to the finish.
THE INSIDE STORY
•
Nala Shearer (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) chipped in 10 digs and four assists.
•
Halle Feth (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) chipped in 20 assists, three digs, three kills and an ace.
•
Sophie Nasir (Covina, Calif./St. Lucy's Priory) added 12 assists, two aces, two digs and a kill.
