Haverford scores late to push past Gettysburg

THE FACTS

THE SKINNY STORY
With an uneventful first period the Bullets open the scoring in the second period and the Fords answer right before the end of the period making it 1-1 into the half. Gettysburg brought a strong defensive presence keeping it 1-1 up until the end of the fourth when Haverford sealed the deal earning a 2-1 win.

THE LEADERS
• Jillian Somers (Virginia Beach, Va., Cape Henry Collegiate) scored the lone goal for the Bullets off an assist from Sabrina Post (Poquoson, Va., Hampton Roads Academy) for fifth goal of the season.


FOR THE FOES
• Naomi York scored the first goal for the Fords.
• Amy Kim scored the second and final goal.
• Erica Pardon had the assist on both goals making it two for the game.


THE REST OF THE STORY
• The first period saw nothing more than strong defenses from both teams. It wasn't until the beginning of the second that the Bullets opened up the scoring with a goal by Somers with an assist from Post. At the end of the second the Fords answered with a goal from Naomi York off of Erica Pardon to make it 1-1 at the half.
• With another period of back-and-forth between Gettysburg and Haverford no goals came in the third. The fourth period started looking like it would fare the same with no goals until about 10 minutes left when Amy Kim found the goal for the Fords off another assist from Pardon. Gettysburg defense held strong until the end when the offense got another chance with a corner however Haverford ended with the 2-1 win.


THE INSIDE STORY
• Haverford had the advantages in shots 17-12 and in penalty corners 8-7.
• Despite the loss, Emilia Saccento (Scotch Plains, N.J., Scotch Plains Fanwood) had eight saves marking her second highest saves in a game.

Gettysburg continues Centennial Conference action at home against Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday, October 9th. Game time is 4:00 pm.
