THE REST OF THE STORY
• Franklin & Marshall wasted little time, jumping out to a 1-0 lead on the game's first shot. In the fourth minute, Hannah Fitzgerald found Caitlin Hoover in the middle of the circle and Hoover lofted the ball int the far upper corner for the early advantage.
• That lead held until the 21st minute when
Bella Bonazinga (Spring Lake, N.J./Wall Twp.) collected a loose ball and fired it home for her team-leading 10th goal of the season. Just shy of five minute later,
Margaret-Ann Graves (Charlottesville, Va./The Covenant School) came away from a scramble off a corner, grabbing her own rebounded shot-and-save for a 2-1 lead.
• On the fourth of consecutive penalty corners for the Diplomats, Hoover fired a shot from the top of the circle that caromed off the goalie pads to Annie Malatesta on the post, where she was able to finish with just 1:32 showing.
• Gettysburg had a couple of looks in the later half of the first overtime but couldn't capitalize. The Bullets then took advantage of the first opportunity of the second 10-minute session.
Cassie DeBlieck (Grafton, Mass./Grafton) carried the ball down the right side on a breakaway before playing it up to
Jillian Somers (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry Collegiate). Somers saved the ball off the endline and centered it to
Sabrina Post, who knocked it into the backside of the cage for the victory.
