THE SKINNY STORY
Johns Hopkins, ranked third in the latest AVCA Div. III coaches' poll, used an 8-0 run late in the first set to open up a big lead en route to a 3-0 win over Gettysburg.

THE LEADERS
Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) led the Bullets with seven digs, two kills and a block.
Nala Shearer (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) added five digs.

FOR THE FOES
• Simrin Carlsen led the Blue Jays with 17 kills and hit .615 on the night.
• Evelyn Battista chipped in 13 digs.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Clinging to a 3-2 edge in the opening set, Jilienne Widener put down a kill then Evelyn Batista recorded an ace and Simrin Carlsen followed with a kill to stretch the Johns Hopkins lead to 6-2. After a Gianna Galli (Demarest, N.J./Northern Valley Demarest) kill, the Blue Jays ran off another 5-0 run for an 11-3 lead. Holding a 16-8 lead, two Carlsen kills keyed an 8-0 run to push the hosts to set point. The teams traded errors for a 25-9 first-set win.
• A Sophie Nasir (Covina, Calif./St. Lucy's Priory) ace started the second set right for the Bullets, who extended the lead to 9-6 on back-to-back Clare Farrell (Livingston, N.J./Academy of St. Elizabeth) kills followed by an Alycen Radolovic (Willoughby, Ohio/Beaumont School) knockdown. Trailing 13-9, Simone Adam knocked down a kill to start a 5-0 run and take a 14-13 edge. Gettysburg grabbed the next two points but the hosts responded with four in a row and a 9-1 run to take a 23-16 lead en route to a 25-17 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
• Gettysburg jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the third set when Catherine Holtz (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and Mary Huegel (Marlboro, N.J./Colts Neck) combined for a block. Johns Hopkins, however, ran off a 5-0 run to take a 6-3 edge and did not trail the rest of the way, wrapping up the sweep with a 25-11 victory.
