Eastern Mennonite (2-3) 14, Gettysburg (1-4) 3

When: Sunday, February 25
Where: Harrisonburg, Va.

THE SKINNY STORY
In the first game of the non-conference doubleheader, Easter Mennonite used a big fourth inning and two home runs to establish a lead, and a six-run fifth inning wasn't enough to overcome the Royals for a 12-8 final. Eastern Mennonite then won the second game 13-4 to complete the sweep.

THE LEADERS
Brendan Laqui (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) went 2-of-2 in the first game with a double, a triple, and a stolen base.

FOR THE FOES
• Aidan Miller had a 3-for-3 first game with a double, a run, and three RBIs and hit a 3 RBI home run in the second.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• In game one, Eastern Mennonite cracked the scoreboard first with a two-hit first inning to plate their first run. In the next inning, the Royals used several pitching errors, a single, and a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-0 game.
• Gettysburg put up their first tally after Brendan Laqui (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) doubled and stole third, and came home on a groundout. In the bottom of the fourth, three hits brought in three more runs for Eastern Mennonite, who took a 7-1 lead.
• The Bullets used a big fifth inning to tie the ballgame, sending 11 to the plate and tallying six runs on six hits. Hunter Del Guercio (Millstone, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) started things off with a single, and Laqui had his second extra-base hit of the day with a triple. Jack Burke (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) doubled to center field to bring in Laqui. Singles by Matthew Vivona (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) and Jack Pistner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) plated two more runs for the Bullets. After a Royals' pitching change, Matt Nichols (White Plains, N.Y./Byram Hills) hit a bases-clearing triple for a 7-all ballgame.
• Eastern Mennonite responded with two home runs in the bottom of the fifth to score five more runs and regain their lead, 12-7. A Burke single and fielder's choice allowed Gettysburg to chip away at the deficit, but the Bullets would be held scoreless in the seventh inning for a 12-8 final.
• In game two, Eastern Mennonite against struck early with three hits and three runs in the first inning. Gettysburg got on the board with a single by Will Bercaw (Kennett Square, Pa./Pennington) and a double by Alexey Stout (Wall, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) along with a Vivona sacrifice fly to plate two runs for the Bullets to make it a 3-2 game. In the top of the fourth the Bullets tied things up with a triple by Tristan Neels (San Diego, Calif./Francis W. Parker) and double by Brian Andersen (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) to bring Neels in.
• The Royals responded with seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth. A walk, hit by pitch, and error plated the first before five singles and a double made it a 10-3 game.
• Eastern Mennonite added three more in the top of the fifth. With two on, Aidan Miller homered to bring all three in. The Royals put up one more run in the next inning and the Bullets couldn't find another for a 14-3 game two final.
