THE SKINNY STORY
After missing its first scheduled day of competition due to travel issues, Gettysburg opened its trip to The Spring Games with a 10-inning game against Babson, falling 3-2. The Bullets then rallied to defeat Rochester, which is receiving votes in the latest NFCA coaches' poll, by an 8-4 final.
THE LEADERS
•
Audrey Bergan (Encinitas, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) led the Bullets with three hits on the day, including two of Gettysburg's four in a pitchers' duel with Babson.
•
Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial) led the way against Rochester with a two-run home run to take the lead in the fifth.
FOR THE FOES
• Moira O'Reilly led the Beavers with 18 strikeouts and one walk in the complete-game effort in the circle.
• Hannah Keiper led the Yellow Jackets with two hits and two RBIs.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In the opener against Babson,
Julia Smith (Marydel, Md./Queen Anne's County) led off the game with a line-drive triple to the gap before an errant throw went out of play, awarding her home for a 1-0 lead.
• A one-out Molly Hennessy single and an errant throw on a potential double-play ball tied the game in the third.
• In the top of the fifth,
Lauren O'Leary reached on a throwing error on a bunt attempt before moving to second on a sacrifice, third on a ground out and scoring on a
Bailey Quinn (Hanford, Calif./Robinson Secondary School [Va.]) for a 2-1 lead.
• An error, stolen base and one-out Cassidy Musco single re-tied the game in the sixth.
• With the international tiebreaker in the eighth, ninth and 10th, neither team could successfully move the runner up Athena Hadjipanayis got down a sacrifice in the home 10th and the Beavers won it one batter later.
• In the second game against Rochester, a one-out Riley Laygo single and two-run Hannah Keiper home run staked the Yellow Jackets to a 2-0 lead in the third.
• Molly Mason led off the fourth with a home run before a pitching change. After a walk to Hunter Gilbreath and a sacrifice, Marie Kinchington roped a one-out, pinch-hit double for a 4-0 lead.

Allegra DeCandia (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) led off the home fourth with a single before a fielder's choice and error put two runners on with one out.
Gabby Wood (Dalton, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) poked a ball up the middle to load the bases before a fielder's choice at the plate gave Rochester two outs.
Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) followed with a two-run single to cut the deficit in half. Another error and Smith infield single tied the game at 4-all.

Giovanna Komst (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) sliced a one-out double into left with one out in the fifth before O'Leary fouled off several pitchers before lofting a nice home run to straightaway center field for a 6-4 lead on the team's ninth hit of the game.
• Quinn barreled up a 2-0 pitch with one out in the sixth for her first collegiate home run. After a popup for the second out, an infield single and error set the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
•
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) was the other end of the pitching duel with Babson, fanning eight with one strikeout. Neither Forry nor Moira O'Reilly gave up an earned run on the day.
• In game two,
Allegra DeCandia,
Giovanna Komst and
Bailey Quinn all had two hits.

Megan Hughes (Woodstock, Md./Marriotts Ridge) pitched the final four innings for the win in the circle.
