THE LEADERS
•
Kody Clausius (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) went 3-for-4 with one run scored, two RBI, a single, double, and triple, and a walk.
FOR THE FOES
• Nate Whetstine had one hit, one RBI, two runs, and a walk.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gettysburg got the scoring started in the top of the first when
Adam Hicks (Edgewater, Md./Gilman School) hit a two-out single and
Jack Pistner (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) followed up with a single of his own to put runners on first and second.
Alexey Stout (Wall, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) then sent a two-RBI triple to right center for a 2-0 Bullets lead. Earlham got one back in the bottom of the inning after a walk and a double.
• Clausius swung on the first pitch of the second inning and sent it sailing to right center for a triple. A single by
David Preziuso (Selbyville, Del./Caravel Academy) brought him in to make the score 3-1. However, Earlham took a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the second. A sacrifice bunt put two runners in scoring position and a single brought in the first run, and two doubles put the Quakers up by three runs.
• Gettysburg tied the score again in the top of the third after a Stout single and
Matthew Vivona (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) double plated two runs. Another extra-base hit by Clausius made it a 6-all game.
• The Bullets added four more in the top of the fourth. Preziuso started things off with a double before stealing third and coming home on a passed ball. Singles by Vivona, Clausius, and
Brendan Laqui (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) plated the final three runs of the inning. However, the Quakers got those runs back and added two in the bottom of the inning. Two walks, two wild pitches, and two hit batters scored the first run before a double and two errors made it a 12-10 game.
• Earlham added their final run in the bottom of the fifth after a walk, hit by pitch, and a failed pickoff attempt, while Gettysburg put up their last run in the top of the seventh after
Jack Amirata (Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy) drew his second walk of the game and Hicks doubled down the line to score him.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Gettysburg tallied 17 hits while Earlham plated their 13 runs on just six hits.
• Six Bullets had extra-base hits, including Stout and Clausius with triples.
