THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg got multiple runs in three innings and solid pitching and defense for an 8-0, five-inning victory over North Park at The Spring Games.
THE LEADERS
•
Megan Hughes (Woodstock, Md./Marriotts Ridge) went the distance in the circle to improve to 3-0 on the young season, scattering three hits and striking out two with no walks in the shutout.
•
Audrey Bergan (Encinitas, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) led the offense with a 3-for-4 day and a two-run knock to end the game early.
•
Marissa Markel (Carson, Calif./San Pedro) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
FOR THE FOES
• Kayla Lorenz had a double to lead the Vikings.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• A pair of throwing errors in the second inning led to a pair of early runs for Gettysburg. After
Gabby Wood (Dalton, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) reached on an error,
Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J./Verona) reached on an infield single but a throwing error scored Wood and allowed Goldstein to reach third. An
Allegra DeCandia (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) RBI groundout scored Goldstein for a 2-0 lead.
•
Marissa Markel and
Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial) put together back-to-back one-out singles. With two outs, Wood doubled home O'Leary for a 3-0 advantage.
• With one out in the fourth,
Giovanna Komst (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) reached on a fielding error before
Lily Mader (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) singled up the middle. A two-out
Audrey Bergan single to right loaded the bases for Markel, who cleared them with a double to deep center for a 6-0 lead.
• Goldstein singled through the left side to start the fifth before
Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) drew a pinch-hit walk and Komst dropped down a bunt single to load the bases. Back-to-back fielder's choices at the plate gave North Park two outs but a Bergan single to center scored Komst and pinch-runner
Alyna Balewitz (Kendall Park, N.J./Lawrenceville School) for the run-rule win.
