THE SKINNY STORY
Case Western Reserve, ranked eighth in the latest NFCA Div. III coaches poll, needed extra innings to record a 6-2 win over Gettysburg in nine innings before Cortland plated three runs in the first inning and held on for a 5-3 win at The Spring Games.

THE LEADERS
• Audrey Bergan (Encinitas, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) led the Bullets with a 4-for-4 day against Cortland. She also had an RBI and run scored. It was the rookie's first four-hit collegiate outing.

FOR THE FOES
• KaiLi Gross led the Spartans with a 4-for-5 day to go with three RBIs and two runs scored in the first game.
• Gina Meyers had two hits for the Red Dragons.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• In the opener against eighth-ranked Case Western Reserve, a fielding error, stolen base, ground out and RBI double from KaiLi Gross in the top of the third made it a 1-0 lead.
• Bailey Quinn (Hanford, Calif./Robinson Secondary School [Va.]) led off the bottom of the frame with a single. Julia Smith (Marydel, Md./Queen Anne's County) followed with a bunt single before three-straight one-out singles turned the one-run deficit into a one-one run lead for Gettysburg. Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial) and Gabby Wood (Dalton, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) had the RBI knocks.
• The Spartans drew even in the sixth after Gross led off with a single, stole second and scored on a Karen Potts single.
• The Bullets had a runner on third in both the seventh and eighth but could not push the winning run across. In the top of the ninth with pinch-runner Tara Fritscher at second, Isabella Russo beat out the sacrifice attempt. A Jordan Manworren single scored Fritscher from third before a wild pitch put runners at second and third. After back-to-back strikeouts, Gross and Potts both doubled to cap the fourth-run inning.
• In the bottom of the first against Cortland, Tori Reich led off with an infield single before a fielder's choice and hit batter put runners at first and second with one out. Another infield single that hugged the line loaded the bases before a throwing error scored two runs. A Brooke Scheibe RBI groundout stretched the lead to 3-0.
• With two outs in the second, Emily Vinal (Erwinna, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph Academy) dropped a single into left for her first collegiate hit. Clare Sottile (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) and Lily Mader (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) followed with back-to-back singles to make it a 3-1 game. Audrey Bergan made it four straight hits and the score 3-2.
• A two-out error, wild pitch and Gina Meyers single up the middle stretched the lead to 4-2 in the second.
• Halle Wright led off the third with a single before stealing second and moving to third on a groundout and scoring on a Katie Stork single for a 5-2 advantage.
• In the home seventh, Bergan led off with an infield single before moving to third on a pair of groundouts and scoring on a dropped popup. The Bullets put the tying run on base but Cortland escaped with the two-run win

THE INSIDE STORY
• Julia Smith had two hits in the opener.
• Lily Mader had a pair of hits in game two.
• Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) struck out nine Case Western Reserve batters in 8 2/3 innings.
