THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg led 12-1 after the first three innings and held Mount Aloysius to just three additional runs the rest of the way for a 19-4 final.
THE LEADERS
•
Will Bercaw (Kennett Square, Pa./Pennington) led the Bullets offensively, batting 1.000 with a 4-for-4 day, one RBI, two walks, and a stolen base.
•
Alexander Wilkie-Viscio (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) pitched 8.0 innings with six strikeouts and three earned runs to record his third win of the season.
FOR THE FOES
• John Griffith hit 3-for-3 with one run scored and one double.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Gettysburg struck first with one run in the bottom of the first. After a 1-2-3 top of the inning,
David Preziuso (Selbyville, Del./Caravel Academy) drew a walk and stole second and third before coming home on a
Jack Burke (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) sacrifice fly. The Bullets added three more in the bottom of the second. A fielder's choice and error plated the first run before a Preziuso bases-clearing single to make it a 3-0 game after two innings.
• The Mounties responded in the top of the third, scoring one run on two straight doubles to prevent the shutout. However, a big bottom of the inning for Gettysburg gave them a commanding 12-1 lead. Gettysburg scored eight runs on three hits and two errors.
Robert Murphy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) knocked the first run in with a single, and the Mounties' first error of the inning plated the second. A sacrifice fly by Preziuso made it an 8-1 game, and a walk,
Adam Hicks (Edgewater, Md./Gilman School) double, and wild pitch turned it into an 11-run advantage after three innings.
• Mount Aloysius scored two runs in the top of the sixth on three singles to make it a 12-3 game, before Gettysburg added one run in the bottom of the inning from a Preziuso double and fielder's choice to maintain the 11-run lead, 14-3.
• In the top of the eighth,
Hunter Del Guercio (Millstone, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) fouled the first pitch he saw over the left field fence, before taking the next pitch to almost the exact same spot, this time in fair territory, for his first career home run. Singles by
Will Bercaw (Kennett Square, Pa./Pennington),
Liam Gregory (Glenmont, N.Y./Bethlehem Central), and
Matt Nichols (White Plains, N.Y./Byram Hills), along with an error, scored Gettysburg's final four runs. A wild pitch scored one more for the Mounties in the top of the ninth for a 19-4 final.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Gettysburg scored their 19 runs on 18 hits and four Mount Aloysius errors. The Mounties tallied 12 hits.
• Gettysburg stole 11 total bases, including four from Preziuso. The Bullets also turned two double plays.
