THE LEADERS
•
Charlie Johnson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) established a new career-high with five goals. He also grabbed three ground balls and caused one turnover.
•

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Both teams scored on early extra-man opportunities in the game's first 2:30 for a 1-all tie, with Gettysburg's goal coming from
Quinton Mather (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farms) and Haverford getting the tally from Reid Tietjen. Just 33 seconds after Tietjen's goal, Mather got a pass from
Stokes Myers (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and finished for his second goal of the day. That goal was the start of a Gettysburg 7-0 run that lasted the rest of the quarter. With 10:13 showing,
Matt Maciolek (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) registered his first career point and first point of the day with the assist on a Johnson goal. Six minutes later, Johnson did it himself for a 4-1 lead.
Frank Barbera (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) then found
Kyle Traynor (Downingtown, Pa./Malvern Prep) for Traynor's first career goal, forcing a Haverford timeout. In the quarter's final 3:30, Gettysburg got an unassisted goal from Kessler and two from Johnson, both coming in the final fifteen seconds, for an 8-1 lead after one quarter of play.
• The Gettysburg momentum continued into the second quarter. Just under five minutes in, Dunleavy scored one himself and then followed up with a feed to
Patrick Maroney (Hingham, Mass./Boston College H.S.) to make it a 10-1 game. James Surgenor finally stopped the Bullets' run with an unassisted goal at the 7:52 mark, and
Jackson Hearn (Houston, Texas/Episcopal Bellaire) and Jonathan Moon traded goals to make it an eight-goal deficit. Gettysburg scored twice in the final 2:26, with the tallies coming from Johnson and Dunleavy, to lead 13-3 going into halftime.
• A Matt Richards goal to open the third quarter brought the deficit back down to nine, but a second Hearn goal made it 10 once again just over a minute later. Gettysburg added two more in the final 5:16 of the quarter, with
Luke Barbera (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finishing one himself and Maciolek connecting with Dunleavy for his second assist of the day.
• Haverford got a man-up opportunity at the beginning of the final period of play and converted to make it a 16-5 game. Gettysburg finished the game on a 3-0 run, getting goals from
Ryan Cernuto (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan),
Griffin Hough (Bourne, Mass./Tabor Academy), and
Gavin Banyas (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) to set the final margin.
