THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg outscored Washington 10-0 in the opening quarter, including six goals in a five-minute span, en route to a 19-7 win over the Shorewomen.
THE LEADERS
•
Emily Crane (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) tied her career-best goal total with five on the day.
FOR THE FOES
• The Shorewomen's seven goals were scored by seven different players, with Abby Laubach getting the assist on two of them.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• An early free position attempt for
Julie Breedveld (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) turned into a goal, and the Bullets made it a 2-0 lead just 14 seconds later after
Julia Daly (McLean, Va./McLean) fed to
Maddie Passarello (West Chester, Pa./Unionville). Two tallies from Crane within a few minutes of each other made it 4-0. A
Sophie Smith (Great Falls, Va./Langley) man-up tally was the first of six goals that were scored in the final 4:41 of the first quarter. Daly followed Smith a goal just 36 seconds later, finishing a pass from
Jordan Basso (Rye, N.Y./Rye), and the duo connected again just over 90 seconds later after a Crane unassisted tally. Within the final 1:10 of the period,
Caroline Sullivan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) put back a ricocheted shot and Crane added her fourth of the period in the last eight seconds for a 10-0 Gettysburg lead after one.
• The Shorewomen cracked the score board almost four minutes into the second quarter after Laubach got the ball to Tobin Chambers. Gettysburg responded with a Crane free position goal, and
Meghan Crane (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) followed her sister's goal with a tally of her own for a 12-1 lead. Basso and Mia Salvatierra traded goals before
Nina Marra (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) scored her second of the season in the final 90 seconds as the Bullets led 14-2 at half.
• Smith scored her second of the day to open the third period, but Ashley Devlin got the Shorewomen their first goal of the second half. Basso got a pass to
Lauren O'Connell (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) who finished for a 17-3 lead, and Daly and Piper Evans each scored one to make the margin 17-4 going into the final 15 minutes.
•
Ella Patterson (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) put up an unassisted tally to start the final quarter and then got the helper on
Caroline Ragan's (Dallas, Texas/The Episcopal School of Dallas) first career goal. Washington finished the game on a 3-0 run but wouldn't get closer than 19-7.
