THE REST OF THE STORY
• In game one,
Julia Smith (Marydel, Md./Queen Anne's County) reached on an error to lead off the game before moving to second on a sacrifice. A
Marissa Markel (Carson, Calif./San Pedro) single through the right side put runners at the corners. After Markel stole second,
Giovanna Komst (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) put a ball through the right side that scored both runners for a 2-0 lead. Another error put two runners on before a two-out
Carlie Goldstein RBI double plated Komst for a 3-0 lead. A
Bailey Quinn (Hanford, Calif./Robinson Secondary School [Va.]) single scored two more runs for a 5-0 lead after one inning.
• From there,
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) took over, allowing just one baserunner – a one-out bloop single in the bottom of the sixth. She struck out five in 6 1/3 innings before
Ella Meyer (Alexandria, Va./Thomas A. Edison) got the final two outs, including one by strikeout.
• In game two, Goldstein led off the second with a double before scoring on an
Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) two-out single. Smith then followed with a double to plate Pelekis for a 2-0 lead.
• Goldstein singled to lead off the fourth, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a Quinn one-out single for a 3-0 lead.
• After Nikki Ceasar (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth, the Bullets responded with four runs in the top of the fifth. Bergan led off the frame with a single and took second on an error before scoring on a
Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial) double. With two outs, Clare Sottle (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) singled home Komst and Goldstein for a 6-0 lead. Sottle scored one batter later on a Quinn single for a 7-0 lead.
• Singles from Chloe Saunders and Rebecca Gottleib gave Hood its lone run of the day in the bottom of the fifth and cut the deficit to 7-1.
• An error,
Camryn MacKay (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore) walk and
Zoe Brennan (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) loaded the bases in the sixth and
