THE REST OF THE STORY
• Ursinus struck early as Grace Lynch scored the first goal of the day in the opening minute of play. Julia Daly scored two goals for Gettysburg around a Dana DeSiato Bears goal for a 2-all tie at the 10:49 mark. The back-and-forth continued as Jordan Basso got her first goal of the day on a solo drive and the hosts connected on an advantage free position goal to tie the game again. Basso responded with a free position tally of her own just 10 seconds later to take the lead, but Mary Michaud tied the game for the third time with a solo score. With 3:08 left in the opening quarter, Gettysburg took off on a 6-0 run to lead 10-4. Emily Crane (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) started the run by netting her first of the day, and was followed by an Ella Patterson (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) tally that was assisted by Basso just 17 seconds later. In the final 95 seconds of the first quarter, Lauren O'Connell (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) assisted Daly in her third goal of the day, and Basso dished to Maddie Passarello (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) to convert an advantage opportunity. Julie Breedveld and Crane scored the final two goals of the quarter 50 seconds apart for a 10-4 Gettysburg lead after one.
• Gettysburg added five more goals in the second quarter while the defense held Ursinus scoreless. Just under two minutes into the quarter, Basso completed her hat trick and Daly got her fourth goal of the day on a pass from Breedveld. A free position opportunity allowed O'Connell to dodge and convert for a 13-4 lead. Crane and Caroline Sullivan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) completed the scoring for Gettysburg with goals just over a minute apart to set the 15-4 margin going into halftime.
• Passarello and Sullivan each made it two goals on the day in the opening seven minutes of the second half. Basso scored her fourth of the day as Gettysburg's defense continued to lock down and hold the Bears to nine shots but just one goal in the final 18 seconds for an 18-5 score going into the final quarter.
• Ursinus opened the fourth quarter with a 3-1 run over a 10-minute span to close within 11 goals. Gettysburg got their goal in the stretch from a Nina Marra (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) pass to Meghan Crane (Montclair, N.J./Montclair). In the final three minutes, the Bears added three more goals for a 19-11 final.
