THE SKINNY STORY
After completing a halted game from Apr. 9 and falling 6-2, Gettysburg won the third game of the season series against York (Pa.), 6-3.
THE LEADERS
•
Jordan Pansy (Stroudsburg, Pa./Notre Dame) led the Bullets with a 3-for-4 outing the final game.
•
Emily Bakker (Hawthorne, N.J./Hawthorne) added three hits of her own to go with three RBIs.
FOR THE FOES
• Gretchen Barstad went 3-for-3 to lead the Spartans.
• Emma Wade added two hits, including a two-run home run.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• The halted game resumed in the top of the fifth inning with York holding a 6-1 lead. Gettysburg had jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Bailey Quinn (Hanford, Calif./Robinson Secondary School [Va.]) walk, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on an error. The Spartans then scored six in the bottom of the second that included two walks to start the frame. Three straight singles and a one-out Morgan Sauers double made it a 4-1 game. A sacrifice fly and Gretchen Barstad single pushed the lead to 6-1.
•
Elliana Hopple (Collegeville, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) – entered into the game upon the resumption of play – led things off with a double to right. A sacrifice bunt and
Zoe Brennan (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) single made it 6-2. The Bullets drew three free passes to load the bases with no outs in the sixth but could not score to get any closer.
• In the full game, Rylee Dreyer was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the first before a Barstad double and Daphey Adams sacrifice fly staked York to a 1-0 lead.
• Quinn started the third with a walk before moving to second on a groundout. A hit batter and second walk loaded the bases for
Gabby Wood (Dalton, Pa./Tunkannock Area), who also walked to force in the tying run.
Emily Bakker followed with a double to the gap, scoring two for a 3-1 lead. She then score on a
Jordan Pansy single through the left side for a 4-1 edge.
• Barstad led off the bottom of the fourth with line drive up the middle before Emma Wade blasted a one-out ball to left-center to make it 4-3.
• With one out in the fifth, Bakker, Pansey and
Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) all singled to load the bases. Bakker then beat a throw home to stretch the lead to 5-3.
•
Allegra DeCandia (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) drew a one-out walk in the sixth before back-to-back singles from Wood and Bakker set the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
•
Isabella Santiago (Austin, Texas/Akins Early College) went the distance in the circle with five strikeouts and no walks.
NEXT UP
Gettysburg concludes the regular season at home against Ursinus on Saturday and will assure itself a top-three seed in the conference tournament with at least one victory. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1 p.m.
