THE LEADERS
•
Julie Breedveld (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) tied a career-best four goals and set a new career-best mark in points with six. She also picked up one ground ball and caused one turnover.
•
Jordan Basso (Rye, N.Y./Rye) and
Julia Daly (McLean, Va./McLean) put up seven points each, both tallying three goals and four assists.
•
Emily Crane (Upper Montclair, N.J./Montclair) scored her 100th career goal in the third quarter. She also corralled a game-high eight draw controls.
FOR THE FOES
• Emma Youngling scored two of the Mules' three goals on the day.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Both teams had a slow start to the first quarter, each turning the ball over before a pass from
Jordan Basso found
Julie Breedveld for the first goal of the day at the 6:56 mark of the first stanza. Breedveld made it two goals in the next 90 seconds to force a Muhlenberg timeout. Out of the break,
Emily Crane won the draw and dished to Basso, who scored just 13 seconds later. Unassisted tallies by Crane and Basso inside the final two minutes made the score 5-0 after one quarter.
• The Bullets lit up the cage in the second quarter of play.
Lauren O'Connell (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) started a 4-0 run that lasted 3 minutes, 7 seconds to put Gettysburg firmly in the lead with a 9-0 advantage. Breedveld connected with
Julia Daly on back-to-back possessions within the stretch before the pair switched places and Breedveld finished a pass from Daly. The Mules found their first tally of the day on a man-up opportunity with 10:03 showing, but the Bullets responded with another draw control win by Crane and goal by
Caroline Sullivan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe), with the assist from Basso, all happening just nine seconds after play resumed. Sullivan found
Meghan Crane (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) shortly after for Gettysburg's 11th goal of the game, but Muhlenberg's Emma Youngling completed a solo run to momentarily cut the Gettysburg lead back to nine. With 5:03 showing in the half, Basso picked up a ground ball and fed it to Sullivan for her second of the day. Breedveld scored her final goal of the day in the last two minutes for a 13-2 Gettysburg lead at half.
• Basso opened the third quarter of play by causing a turnover and passing the ground ball to
Emily Crane, who finished for her 100th career goal. Just one more goal would be scored in the third stanza, with Emma Youngling finding her second tally of the day with 1:58 showing to maintain the Gettysburg 11-goal advantage going into the final quarter.
• The Bullets scored two quick goals to start the final quarter. Sullivan corralled a draw control and Daly assisted on a
Sophie Smith (Great Falls, Va./Langley) goal. Daly then assisted freshman
Kali McDonnell (Norwich, Vt./Hanover)'s first career goal for a 16-3 lead. Gettysburg chipped in goals from Basso, Daly, O'Connell, and
Ella Patterson (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) in the final 10 minutes to set the 20-3 final margin.
