THE REST OF THE STORY
•
Quinton Mather netted his first goal of the day just 38 seconds into the contest, scoring off a pass from
Ethan Kessler (Ridgefield, Conn./Millbrook School). However, it took Washington just over two minutes to respond as Cory Morgan found the back of the net to notch the first tie score of the game. After a caused turnover by
Andy Marquet (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga),
Frank Barbera picked up the ground ball and dished to
Jack Dunleavy (New Providence, N.J./Seton Hall Prep). Gettysburg got their first two-goal lead of the day shortly after as
Patrick Maroney (Hingham, Mass./Boston College H.S.) finished a pass from Mather. With just over two minutes left in the first period, Washington cut the deficit to just one goal before
Jackson Hearn (Houston, Texas/Episcopal Bellaire) found Mather with just 43 ticks left for a 4-2 lead after one.
• Cam Carrigan used a man-up opportunity to cut the advantage back to 4-3 just 15 seconds into the second quarter.
Michael Voehringer (West Chester, Pa./Malvern Prep) responded by winning the faceoff and going straight to cage just six seconds later. Washington ran off two straight goals to tie the game for the second time, 5-all, but
Stokes Myers (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) and
Henry Grosso (Boston, Mass./Lincoln Sudbury) scored back-to-back to reestablish the two-goal advantage. Goals by Cory Morgan and
Charlie Johnson (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) maintained Gettysburg's lead, and Mather hit Dunleavy for Gettysburg's final goal of the half before Grant Matthews scored with 63 seconds left for a 9-7 Gettysburg lead going into the locker rooms.
• It took over five minutes for either team to score in the second half, but it was Logan Trombley for Washington that made it a one-goal game again with 9:37 showing. Goals from Johnson and Grosso set the lead back to 11-8, but Ben Dickinson netted another to stay within two goals. An unassisted Mather goal in the final 93 seconds made it a three-goal Gettysburg lead going into the final quarter of play.
• Washington opened the fourth on a 2-0 run, netting both tallies in just 45 seconds, to close within one goal once again. With 7:42 showing,
Ryan Cernuto (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored an unassisted goal to set the final margin and the defense held Washington to just five shots the rest of the way.

•
Brian Delduchetto (Weston, Mass./Weston) caused three turnovers and grabbed three ground balls.
•
Chase Morgan (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) made 10 saves in goal.
