THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg watched a 7-1 lead evaporate before plating five runs in the top of the ninth inning for a 14-11 victory in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader at York (Pa.). The second game was halted after four complete innings with the Spartans in front 6-1 after a six-run second inning.
THE LEADERS
•
Allegra DeCandia (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) led the Bullets with three hits and career-high six RBIs.
•
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) went the distance in the circle with four strikeouts and no walks.
FOR THE FOES
• Gretchen Barstad led the Spartans with three hits of her ow, adding a pair of RBIs and three runs scored.
THE REST OF THE STORY
•
Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J./Verona) doubled with two outs in the first inning before
Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) was hit by a pitch and
Giovanna Komst (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) walked to load the bases.
Allegra DeCandia followed with a single for a 2-0 lead.
•
Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial), Goldstein and DeFreitas all walked to start the third inning before a Komst sacrifice fly and DeCandia three-run home run made it 6-0.
• After the teams traded single runs in the bottom of the fourth and top of the fifth, a hit batter, single and one-out double from Alexis McDonaugh coupled with a Bri McKeown sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 7-3.
• A walk, stolen base and pair of errors in the top of the seventh scored
Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) to push the lead to five.
• With one out in the bottom of the frame, a hit batter, throwing error, single and fielder's choice without an out made it 8-4 with the bases loaded. Emma Wade followed with a grand slam to tie the game before a groundout and flyout sent the game to extras.
• After each team scored a run in the eighth, infield singles from
Marissa Markel (Carson, Calif./San Pedro) and
Audrey Bergan (Encinitas, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) loaded the bases with one out. An O'Leary sacrifice fly and throwing error made it 11-9. Goldstein followed with an RBI single before an error and Komst RBI single stretched the lead to 13-9. DeCandia then plated DeFreitas with a single to left for a 14-9 advantage.
• Wade led off the bottom of the inning with a double to score a run and make it 14-10. A one-out McKeown double trimmed the deficit to three before a pair of flyouts around an infield hit finished off the game.

Audrey Bergan,
