THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg scored four runs in the second inning to open up a 5-2 lead and held on to defeat Muhlenberg 5-4 in the winner's bracket game of the 2024 Centennial Conference (CC) tournament.
THE LEADERS
•
Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J./Verona) led the Bullets with a hit and two RBIs.
•
Lily Mader (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) added a 2-for-3 day.
•
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) went the distance in the circle with five strikeouts and one walk, allowing just two earned runs.
FOR THE FOES
• Gillian Zak was one of three Mules to record two hits, adding a pair of RBIs on her two base knocks.
THE REST OF THE STORY
•
Julia Smith (Marydel, Md./Queen Anne's County) doubled to the gap with one out in the bottom of the first before
Giovanna Komst (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) was hit by a pitch. After a runner's interference call put
Allegra DeCandia (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) on base with two outs, a fielding error allowed Komst to score for a 1-0 lead.
• Skyla Campisi singled with one out in the second before Brianna Kessler was hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice put both runners in scoring position. An error then scored both for a 2-1 Muhlenberg advantage.
•
Lily Mader poked a leadoff single up the middle in the second before going first to third on a sacrifice and scoring the tying the run on an
Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) double to right. An
Audrey Bergan (Encinitas, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) single up the middle plated Mader from second with the go-ahead run. After a walk to Smith and wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, Komst was hit by a pitch for the second time in as many innings to load the bases.
Carlie Goldstein drove a ball to center with two outs for a 5-3 lead before an out at third ended the inning.
• Kaya Mahy singled to lead off the fifth before a sacrifice and two-out Gillian Zack single through the left side made it 5-3 in the fifth.
• Mahy then once again led off the seventh with a single before a two-out Zack single up the middle scored her from second to cut the deficit to one.
Paige Forry, however, got a groundball to get out of it and notch the win.
