THE REST OF THE STORY
• The first set featured 12 ties and five lead changes. Neither team was able to open up a lead of more than two points until
Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) knocked down back-to-back kills to give Gettysburg a 12-9 edge and force a Stockton timeout. The Ospreys battled back to draw the set even at 15-all on a Kate Louer kill. Trailing 21-19,
Catherine Holtz (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and
Alycen Radolovic (Willoughby, Ohio/Beaumont School) put together consecutive knockdowns to retie the set. Even at 23-all, Radolovic finished off a 25-23 win with a pair of kills.
• The Ospreys opened up a lead as large as four early in the second set. Trailing 17-13, a
Mary Huegel (Marlboro, N.J./Colts Neck) ace keyed a 5-0 run that put the Bullets in front by one. Kills from five different Bullets down the stretch allowed the hosts to pull out a 25-23 win and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
• After a Regan Mendick ace to start the third set for Stockton, Gettysburg registered seven of the next nine points to take a 7-3 lead. Holtz recorded four of her seven kills in the final set during the opening run and the Bullets did not trail the rest of the way. The lead grew as large a 21-13 before the visitors made a mini-run that closed the margin to 23-18 but a service errors and Huegel's final kill finished off the sweep.
