THE SKINNY STORY
After a scoreless opening half, Gettysburg broke through in the 51st minute but Carthage salvaged a tie with a goal in the final 14 seconds of the contest.
THE LEADERS
•
Noah Holgado (Middletown, Del./Salesianum School) scored his first goal of the year for the Bullets.
FOR THE FOES
• Mickey Reilly found the back of the net for the Firebirds.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• The first half was played primarily in the midfield with neither team getting a quality look at the goal despite Carthage holding a possession advantage.
• Gettysburg, however, wasted little time changing the tune in the second half. Collecting a ball at the top of the box,
Noah Holgado worked his way around the defense and a keeper who had come out to greet him before firing into the backside of the net for a 1-0 lead. The lead looked like it would hold until the Firebirds earned their sixth corner kick of the game with about 20 seconds remaining. Jethro Yumange quickly lofted the corner into the box. Josh Barry was able to get a foot on it and push it across the goalmouth, where Mickey Reilly was able to knock it into the net.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Carthage finished with a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks while both teams took seven shots.
