THE REST OF THE STORY
• After a back-and-forth start that included a
Nate Williams (Morganville, N.J./St. John Vianney) three-point play giving Gettysburg an 11-10 lead, Salisbury went on an 11-2 run over a four-minute period to open up a 21-13 lead midway through the opening half. Jamison Graves contributed seven of the Sea Gulls' points during the stretch. The advantage grew as large as 10 on a Calvin Thomas layup to make it 32-22 with 5:37 to play in the opening half but the Bullets closed the stanza on a 13-5 run to trim the deficit to 37-35 at the break.
• Layups from Leon Elung and Thomas in the first 68 seconds of the second half quickly pushed the lead back to six. A Williams 3-pointer and Gillus jumper on back-to-back possessions closed the margin back to 45-43 with 15:50 to play. Trailing by four, Gillus and
Aidan Mess each hit a shot from short range to tie the game at 51-all with 11:30 to play. After Daniel Oyediran put the hosts back in front by two, a Gillus three-point play and Williams layup accounted for a 5-0 burst to give the Bullets a 56-53 lead with 8:33 to play. Tyler Ball retied the game at 60-all with 5:01 on the clock but Gillus once again had the answer with a triple and then hit the second of two free throws 40 seconds after that for a 64-60 edge with 3:57. Neither team hit a field goal for the final 4:37 of the game but Gettysburg was 4-for-6 from the line to win by five.
