Gettysburg used a late 12-2 run to seal a 75-66 win over McDaniel to remain in a tie for first place with one game to play.
THE LEADERS

Jordan Stafford (Galloway, N.J./St. Joseph Hammonton) led the Bullets with 26 points and seven rebounds.

Carl Schaller (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) added 19 points and four assists.

• Baskets from
Jordan Stafford and
Rassoul Abakar (Camaroon/Notre Dame Fairfield [Conn.]) staked Gettysburg to a 4-0 lead in the game's first 1:19. A David Kearney 3-pointer trimmed the deficit to 4-3 on the next possession. The Bullets, however, answered with a 12-2 run over a five-minute stretch to open up a 16-5 advantage with 13:01 remaining. Stafford contributed seven points during the run. McDaniel closed to within 22-14 on a Chuck Contee drive and score with 9:21 to play but Gettysburg countered with eight of the next 11 points to build a 30-17 lead with 5:44 on the clock. The Green Terror got back to within 33-24 but the Bullets put together a 7-2 burst over just 92 seconds to stretch the lead to 40-26. Contee, however, scored three points in the final 36 seconds to cut the margin to 11 at the break.
• Trailing 48-36 on a
Carl Schaller 3-pointer with 17:18 showing, the host scored seven straight points to trim the margin to five just 1 minute, 46 seconds later. The Bullets got a pair of free throws each from
Aidan Mess and
Akim Joseph (Port-au-Prince, Haiti/Notre Dame Fairfield [Conn.]) stretched the lead back to nine with 12:52 showing. Lorin Hall momentarily halted the run but baskets from three different Gettysburg players stretched the lead out to 58-45 and forced a timeout with 10:07 to play. The run extended to 11-2 before a Contee 3-pointer made it 59-48 with 8:50 remaining. Thirteen points from Contee keyed an 15-4 counter from the Green Terror to bring the deficit to three with 5:05 on the clock. Four free throws from Mess around a Stafford dunk stretched the lead to 69-60 before an Abakar triple with 1:37 showing capped a 9-0 run to seal the win.
THE INSIDE STORY
• The winner of Saturday's game between Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall will claim the top seed in the Centennial Conference tournament. The loser will be the No. 2 or No. 3 seed.
