THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg scored twice in the sixth inning of its opening game to break a scoreless deadlock and defeat LeTourneau 2-0 before knocking off sixth-ranked Tufts 7-4 in the second game of the Bullets' trip to the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
THE LEADERS
•
Audrey Bergan (Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) led the Bullets with five hits, recording multiple knocks in each game.
•
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) threw a complete-game shutout in game one before earning the save in game two.
FOR THE FOES
• Jaci Taylor led the Yellowjackets with two hits
• Cat Kawabe had two hits to pace the Jumbos.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In game one, neither team could dent the scoreboard until
Audrey Bergan reached on an infield single to start the bottom of the sixth. One-out walks to
Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J./Verona) and
Abby Todd (Roebling, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) loaded the bases for
Elliana Hopple (Collegeville, Pa./The Episcopal Academy), who drove in both runs of the game.
•
Paige Forry worked around a one-out single in the top of the seventh to finish off the shutout.
• Against the Jumbos, Bergan and
Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) led off the game with back-to-back singles before a one-out walk loaded the bases. A two-out
Renee Laczkowski (Erie, Colo./Erie) single through the left side plated Bergan for a 1-0 lead.
• Back-to-back home runs from Cat Kawabe and Emma Tonies turned the one-run deficit into a 2-1 Tufts lead in the bottom of the second.
• Gettysburg, however, responded with four runs in the third. After a walk,
Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial) doubled down the line. Laczkowski followed with a single to score both pinch-runner
Jordan Pansy (Stroudsburg, Pa./Notre Dame) and O'Leary for a 3-2 edge.
Lily Mader (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) followed with an RBI single before Goldstein drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk for the 5-2 lead.
• An error and RBI groundout from Laczkowski pushed the lead to 6-2 in the fourth.
• Heaven Oliva led off the home fourth with a home run to make it 6-3.
• O'Leary and Lauryn Horita traded home runs in the sixth for the final margin.
THE INSIDE STORY
•

Audrey Bergan's three-hit game two,
Lauren O'Leary,
Renee Laczkowski and
