No. 24 Bullets sweep day three in Florida with two shutouts

THE SKINNY STORY
The now No. 24 ranked Gettysburg sweeps the day in Florida for the second day in a row.

THE LEADERS
  • Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa., Downingtown West) had 17 putouts on the day at first base between both games helping to keep both Bowdoin and Ithaca off the board. She also had the hit that sent the lone runner home against Bowdoin and was one of the three runners who scored against Ithaca.
  • Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J., Ridgewood) doubled against Ithaca scoring two. She also added five putouts of her own with four assists at short.
FOR THE FOES
  • Anika Ewert went 2-for-3 at the plate and had the lone stolen base for the Polar Bears.
  • Elise Waddington went 2-for-3 at the plate for Ithaca.
THE REST OF THE STORY
  • Gettysburg and Bowdoin held each other to no runs until the top of the fourth when Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md., Glenelg) was walked as the first batter up later advancing on a wild pitch. As Renee Laczkowski (Erie, Colo., Erie) flied out to right field Shaw found her way to third. Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa., Downingtown West)singles up the middle scoring Shaw and putting the Bullets on the board.
  • Both teams went three outs in three batters until the top of the sixth when Shaw singled getting on base however she was left on base by the end. Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J., Ridgewood) singled to right field attempting to the Bullets again however she was out at second on the next batter making it a 1-0 win.
  • Game 2 saw a scoreless start until the bottom of the fourth when Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J., Verona) singled to right center to kick things off.
  • DeFreitas reached on a fielder's choice that resulted in Goldstein securing the advance on the error by second base. Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J., Jackson Memorial) hits a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners putting the Bullets into scoring position with two outs. Pelekis doubled to right center bringing both DeFreitas and Goldstein home putting Gettysburg up 2-0.
  • Elise Waddington singled to right center for the Bombers giving them a chance at fighting the lead in the top of the sixth but was left stranded.
  • Bottom of the sixth Shaw singled to third base and advanced to second on Goldstein's reach on the shortstop's error. O'Leary singled to right center two batters later scoring Shaw after she had advanced on the previous out making it three for the Bullets.
  • The Bombers had a single from Haley Petrucci and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Cate Murray however she was left stranded and the Bullets take the 3-0 win.
THE INSIDE STORY
  • Paige Forry (Reading, Pa., Schuylkill Valley) played all 14 innings totaling 12 strikeouts on the day.
  • Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J., Jackson Memorial) had three putouts and seven assists at second base she added one hit and RBI at the plate.
  • Lily Mader (Las Vegas, Nev., Valley) had five putouts from behind the plate against Ithaca.
