THE SKINNY STORY
The now No. 24 ranked Gettysburg sweeps the day in Florida for the third day in a row.
THE LEADERS
- Lily Mader (Las Vegas, Nev., Valley) went 3-for-4 at the plate against Western New England adding two runs and two RBIs. She also contributed seven putouts as catcher.
- Sydney Goldstein (Villanova, Pa., Harriton) contributed 10 putouts at first base helping to keep Suffolk to one run.
FOR THE FOES
- Ava Brandow was the lone score for the Rams. She also contributed one hit.
- Marley Rodriguez went 2-for-3 from the plate adding two RBIs, one run, and came off with a double as one of her two hits for Western New England.
THE REST OF THE STORY
- Game one saw Suffolk score first in the top of the second.
- With a walk in the bottom of the second the Bullets had a chance with Renee Laczkowski (Erie, Colo., Erie) on first from a walk. Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J., Jackson Memorial) had the sacrifice bunt to advance Laczkowski to second. However, she and Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J., Ridgewood) were stranded by the end of the inning.
- After two quick innings in the third and fourth the Bullets got one on the base with a walk for Sydney Goldstein (Villanova, Pa., Harriton) late in the fifth. Kate Buckley (Springfield, N.J., Jonathan Dayton) went in as the pinch runner and was advanced to second off of a single to first fromAbigail Gold (Apex, N.C., Apex). A series of errors had Audrey Bergan (Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif., La Jolla Country Day School) reach first, advance to second, and ultimately score with Buckley and Gold scoring off the same series to give Gettysburg the 3-1 lead.
- Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J., Verona) doubled to center field and eventually advanced to third on a wild pitch with two outs in the inning but was left on base to close out the fifth.
- Suffolk had a bag when Lily Newhall singled down the left field line but couldn't break the Bullets defense.
- Against Western New England the Bullets came out swinging in the top of the first C. Goldstein singled scoring Bergan who had singled and was advanced off of Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md., Glenelg) at bat.
- In the bottom of the first the Golden Bears answered almost immediately. Angelees Carrasquillo reached on an error and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Marley Rodriguez. After a walk and single Carrasquillo scored tying up the game.
- The Bullets answered not once but twice in the top of the second. O'Leary doubled to right field and scored off of a single from Lily Mader (Las Vegas, Nev., Valley). Mader was advanced on an out and then scored when Jordan Pansy (Stroudsburg, Pa., Notre Dame) singled to center field giving Gettysburg the 3-1 lead.
- Bottom of the second and the Golden Bears added two more runs once again tied up the game.
- Mader singled in the top of the fourth and Emily Bakker (Hawthorne, N.J., Hawthorne) was walked putting two on the bags setting the Bullets up to score two more before the end of the inning. Pansy singled scoring Mader and advancing Bakker when Bergan grounded out to second but not before Bakker scored as well making it 5-3.
- With one out in the bottom of the fourth Rodriguez doubled to left field and then advanced to third on a passed ball. The Golden Bears were in scoring position when Alex Ferriouol singled bringing Rodriguez to plate adding another for Western New England. The bases loaded and after a few errors the Golden Bears added another run but the Bullets secured the second out bringing the end of the inning sooner.
- 5-5 going into the fifth however it wasn't until the top of the seventh when the Bullets tacked on three more for the 8-5 win. Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa., Downingtown West) reached on an error and Alyna Balewitz (Kendall Park, N.J., Lawrenceville School) was brought in as a pinch runner. O'Leary also reached on an error progressing Balewitz to second.
- With one out Mader was back to the plate and singled to center field scoring Balewitz and pushing O'Leary to third. Elie Lardiere (Basking Ridge, N.J., Ridge) was brought in as a pinch runner for Mader. A second out added and Pansy singled to left field scoring O'Leary and bringing Lardiere to second. Before the inning was over Gettysburg scored once more when Bergan singled to left field as well sending Lardiere home.
- After a quick 1-2-3 outs in the bottom of the seventh the Bullets secured the win.
THE INSIDE STORY
- Paige Forry (Reading, Pa., Schuylkill Valley) pitched 10 innings on the day garnering 11 strikeouts and 15 groundouts.
- Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J., Jackson Memorial) went 2-for-4 at the plate adding two runs against the Golden Bears.
- Jordan Pansy (Stroudsburg, Pa., Notre Dame) went 3-or-4 against Westen New England adding three RBIs
