THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg splits final day in Florida returning with a 12-3 record as they continue their season.
THE LEADERS
- Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J., Jackson Memorial) went 2-for-2 at the plate adding two runs and two RBIs against Alfred.
- Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J., Verona) had two sac flies to score both of Gettysburg's runs against Carthage and earned two RBIs.
FOR THE FOES
- Jessica Remm and Molly Whitmyer both went 2-for-3 at the plate and had both of the Alfred's runs.
- Izzy Hernandez went 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and one of Carthage's five runs. She also had a stolen base and added eight putouts at first.
THE REST OF THE STORY
- Bottom the first against Alfred and the Bullets get on the board first. Audrey Bergan (Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif., La Jolla Country Day School) was walked followed by a walk for Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md., Glenelg). A wild pitch during the next at bat saw Bergan find home.
- Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J., Verona) was also walked and with one on first and third Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa., Downingtown West) doubled down the right field line scoring both Shaw and Goldstein putting the Bullets at 3-0 with no outs.
- With one out Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J., Jackson Memorial) walked and Elliana Hopple (Collegeville, Pa., The Episcopal Academy) singled up the middle scoring DeFreitas and putting O'Leary on third.
- By the end of the inning O'Leary was left on base.
- With two outs in the bottom of the second with one on first and second a wild pitch advances runners to second and third. O'Leary singled to right field and finds second on the throw scoring both DeFreitaas and Shaw.
- Hopple at the plate delivers a double down the left field line and scores O'Leary ending the inning 8-0 for Gettysburg.
- The top of third saw Alfred answer with two outs. Jessica Remm doubled to center field and Molly Whitmyer singled to right center putting Remm in scoring position on third. Abigail Gatza singled down the left field line scoring Remm.
- After a hit by pitch Alfred had loaded the bases and Brielle Wark was walked sending Whitmyer home ending the inning with two for the Saxons.
- Bergan was walked with one out in the bottom of the third and advanced to second on the second out. Goldstein singled up the middle scoring Bergan.
- After a quick fourth inning the Saxons saw a chance when Whitmyer based on a drop third. Sabrina Diaz pinch ran finding second on a single from Gatza. However, it wasn't quite enough to come back against the Bullets.
- Bottom of the fifth and Gettysburg put a cherry on top when Bergan tripled to right center followed up with a single to center field from Shaw to score Bergan.
- Game two had Carthage scoring first with two outs the Firebirds finished the inning with two runs.
- After an uneventful three innings the Bullets found their way on the board in the top of the fifth.
- Jordan Pansy (Stroudsburg, Pa., Notre Dame) walked to started and Bergan singled on a bunt to advance Pansy to second. Shaw followed suit singling on a bunt to load the bases.
- Goldstein flied out for a sacrifice scoring Pansy to make 2-1.
- The bottom of the sixth and Carthage scored three. Olivia Hristov singled to shortstop followed by a single from Izzy Hernandez who then advanced to second on an error also advancing Hristov. Gwen Hendrick doubled to center field scoring both Hernandez and Hristov.
- Before the end of the sixth Addison Simonson singled to center field scoring Hendrick taking the Firebirds to 5-1.
- The Bullets put up a fight with a hit by pitch and steal from Pansy followed with a walk from Bergan to get two on.
- Shaw singled to center field to load the bases giving the Bullets a chance with no outs. Pansy scored off of a sacrifice fly from Goldstein however Bergan and Shaw were left on by the end.
THE INSIDE STORY
- Elliana Hopple (Collegeville, Pa., The Episcopal Academy) went 2-for-3 against the Saxons adding two RBIs.
- Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md., Glenelg) went 4-for-6 across both games adding two runs and an RBI in game one.
