THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg, ranked 17th in the latest NFCA Div. III coaches' poll, scored five runs in consecutive innings to key a 14-2 run-rule game one win over Washington (Md.) before earning the sweep in game two, 5-3.
THE LEADERS
•

FOR THE FOES
• Gracelyn Goforth led the Shorewomen with three hits and an RBI on the day.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In game one,
Audrey Bergan (Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) drew a walk to start the bottom of the first. After a
Jamie Shaw (Mt. Airy, Md./Glenelg) sacrifice,
Elliana Hopple singled to center to score Bergan for a 1-0 lead. A two-out
Renee Laczkowski (Erie, Colo./Erie) single up the middle, wild pitch and two-run single from
Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) made it 3-0.
Lauren O'Leary (Manasquan, N.J./Jackson Memorial) poked a single back up the middle before
Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J./Verona) got one just inside the third-base bag for a 4-0 lead after one inning.
• Three walks loaded the bases with one out in the home third. A fielder's choice cut down the run at the plate and gave Washington the second out. However, Bergan drew a walk to force home O'Leary and a wild pitch plated Goldstein for a 6-0 lead. After a Shaw walk reloaded the bases, Hopple cleared them with a double to the fence in left to give the Bullets a 9-0 lead.
• Laczkowski and Pelekis led off the fourth with back-to-back singles before a fielder's choice, a lineout and wild pitch made it second and third with two outs. Abigail (Apex, N.C./Apex) scored both Pelekis and O'Leary with a double.
Elie Lardiere (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) followed with a pinch-hit double off the fence in center to trade places and make it 12-0.
Kate Buckley (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) drew a walk before a Hopple single scored Lardiere. With the bases loaded,
Jordan Pansy (Stroudsburg, Pa./Notre Dame) reached on an infield single to score the 14th run.
• Lilly Wenzel and Julia Weglarz each singled to start the top of the seventh before Becca Foulk was hit by a pitch to load the bases. After groundout scored pinch-runner Julia Guzman, Gracelyn Goforth singled home Weglarz for the 14-2 final.
• In the nightcap, Bergan and Shaw each drew walks in the home first before a wild pitch and sacrifice flies from Hopple and
Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown West) made it 2-0.
• Jenna Harper started the second with a single before a sacrifice and throwing error allowed her to score and cut the deficit in half. Singles from Laczkowski, Pelekis and an O'Leary walk loaded the bases.
Lily Mader (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) popped a ball that fell behind the circle to score one run and make it 3-0.
• Bergan and Shaw were then both hit by pitches with one out in the second before a Hopple single up the middle plated Bergan for a 4-1 lead.
• Goforth doubled to lead off the third before a Lilly Cook single and stolen base had two in scoring position. Harper grounded out to the right side, scoring Goforth with two outs before a Mia Mavoides single scored Cook to cut the deficit to 4-3.
• Shaw started the fourth with a flare single to right before stealing second, taking third on a groundout and scoring on a two-out Laczkowski single for a 5-3 advantage.
