GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg will host Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD) Awareness Day for its doubleheader against McDaniel on Tuesday, Apr. 22.
Part of Keystone Human Services, Susquehanna Service Dogs breeds, raises, trains, and places assistance dogs and hearing dogs, as well as facility dogs, to assist children and adults with disability to lead the lives they want to live. SSD works hard to match people and dogs to form a successful partnership and follow each team for the working life of the dog and through the dog's retirement.
Gettysburg Senior Associate Director of Athletics
Susan Fumagalli Mahoney was matched with a partner from SSD last winter and has had Marshal as part of her daily life for the last 14 months. She recently sat down to talk about her journey with Marshal. She also shares why she chose SSD when searching for a service dog.
Susquehanna Service Dogs will have a presence at Tuesday's game with Ambassador Dogs and a table with more information about volunteering and raising service dogs. Gettysburg will also be collecting donations at the game to support SSD's mission.
For those who cannot attend the game and wish to donate, they can do so through
