Gettysburg opens CC title defense starting Thursday

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg will host one of the first-round games of the double-elimination portion of the 2025 Centennial Conference (CC) softball championship tournament on Thursday. Game time is 3 p.m.

In the five-team format, the Bullets (35-4, 15-1 CC), who earned the No. 2 seed, will host No. 3 Ursinus (21-18, 9-7 CC) in one of the two games. Top-seeded Swarthmore (29-9, 15-1 CC), who earned the No. 1 seed based on run-differential tiebreaker, will host the winner of the single-elimination first-round game for a game that will begin at 4 p.m. Fifth-seeded Washington (12-24, 7-9 CC) will travel to fourth-seeded Muhlenberg (20-18, 8-8 CC) in the opening game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The four remaining teams will all travel to Swarthmore for the remainder of the double-elimination tournament on Saturday and Sunday. Games being at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Tickets will be sold for each day of the CC tournament and will be available soon on the Centennial ticketing homepage. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students age 6 through high school and senior citizens. Children five and under as well as students and staff from conference institutions are free.

The tournament's champion will earn the CC's automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin at 16 regionals sites on May 15-17. The NCAA field will be announced on Monday, May 12 at 1 p.m.

The Bullets are seeking their seventh conference title and second in a row. It is the 17th tournament appearance for Gettysburg. The Bullets also in search of their sixth NCAA tournament bid.

In the regular-season meeting between Gettysburg and Ursinus, the Bullets swept the doubleheader in Collegeville on Apr. 5. The Bullets won game one 3-1 before completing the sweep in five innings, 11-2.

Audrey Bergan (Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) leads the team and conference this season with a .484 batting average and team-best 62 hits. She has four doubles and three triples for a .563 slugging percentage and has also drawn 23 walks for a .566 on-base percentage. She has 48 runs scored and 19 RBIs. Anika Pelekis (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) is hitting .409 with 45 hits that includes seven doubles. She has driven in 27 runs and scored 22 times. Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) rounds out a trio of hitters over .400 on the year with a .403 average and 50 hits. She also has 16 walks for a .472 on-base percentage.
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) leads the pitching staff with a 0.89 earned-run average. She is 25-3 in the circle with four saves. She has 18 complete games among her 23 starts. She has struck out 175 and walked just 25 in 166 innings pitched.
