THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg, ranked 14th in the latest NFCA Div. III coaches' poll, broke a scoreless deadlock with a two-run third inning to key a 7-0 win over Ursinus in the opening game of the 2025 Centennial Conference softball tournament.
THE LEADERS
•
Renee Laczkowski (Erie, Colo./Erie) led the Bullets with a three-run home run in the fifth inning – one of her two hits on the day.
•
Paige Forry (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) tossed a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and no walks.
FOR THE FOES
• Kayla Carr led the Bears with a first-inning double.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• Ursinus put two baserunners on in the first inning but could not score. That was the best early threat until
Carlie Goldstein (Verona, N.J./Verona) led off the bottom of the third with a single. After a sacrifice,
Audrey Bergan (Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Calif./La Jolla Country Day School) tripled for a 1-0 lead. A
Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) RBI groundout plated Bergan for a 2-0 advantage.
• That was all the offense
Paige Forry needed. She proceeded to retire the last 15 batters she faced.
•
Zoe Brennan (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) led off the fifth with an infield single. Bergan followed with a single back to the pitcher before a groundout put two runners in scoring position. A two-run
Elliana Hopple (Collegeville, Pa./The Episcopal Academy) single made it 4-0 before a
Morgan DeFreitas (Coatesville, Pa./Downingtown East) single to center.
Renee Laczkowski then blasted a 1-2 pitch down the left-field line for a three-run home run.
