THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg opened the second day of the Battlefield Classic with a sweep of Shenandoah before falling to Otterbein, 3-1.
THE LEADERS
•
Halle Feth (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) led the Bullets with 33 assists, three aces, nine digs and a kill in the two matches.
•
Mary Huegel (Marlboro, N.J./Colts Neck) had 10 kills and two total blocks in the match against Otterbein.
FOR THE FOES
• Hannah Hylton led the Hornets with 11 kills and nine digs.
• Emerson Baum led the Cardinals with 20 kills and hit .531 in the match. She also chipped in eight total blocks and five digs.
THE REST OF THE STORY
•
Halle Feth started the match against Shenandoah with an ace to propel Gettysburg to a 6-0 start. Two Hannah Hylton kills helped draw the Hornets within 7-6 before a Susan Smith ace tied the set at 9-all. Trailing 10-9, an error tied the set once again before the Bullets took a 13-10 lead on an
Alycen Radolovic (Willoughby, Ohio/Beaumont School) kill. An
Ava Grall (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) kill and Feth ace capped a 3-0 finish to the set for a 25-20 win.

Emma Bradshaw (East Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) put down back-to-back kills to start the second set, keying a 7-2 open. Trailing 17-12, Three straight Autumn Stroop aces were part of a run of six straight Hornets points for an 18-17 edge. The teams then traded points with each team reaching set point twice before Gettysburg tallied the last three points on kills from Bradshaw and
Ellen Manke (Madison, N.J./Morristown Beard School) before Grall capped it with an ace for a 28-26 win.
• Feth served the opening 11 points of the third set and Gettysburg led by as many as 16-1 en route to a 25-10 victory of the sweep.
• Tied at 8-all in the first set with Otterbein, the Cardinals got a kill from Lexi Scott that started an 11-2 run to open up a 19-10 advantage. Emerson Baum had three kills and a block during the stretch. Trailing 23-15,
Mary Huegel knocked down a kill to start a run of seven straight points to pull within one and force a second timeout. Maddie Mergan knocked one down out of the stoppage to reach set point before forcing an attack error for a 25-22 win.
• The second set featured 13 ties and six lead changes. Tied for the final time at 17-all after neither team was able to open up a lead of larger than three, Grall had a kill before combining with Manke for two blocks in the next three points. Manke added another kill and Grall had an ace for a 23-18 lead. The Cardinals pulled back within 24-23 but Bradshaw had the winner to tie the match at 1-all.
• Tied at 8-all after a back-and-forth start to the third set, Brooke Barb recorded a kill to start a run of 14 straight points behind two Payton Powell aces and five points from Baum. Otterbein finished off the third-set victory, 25-10.
• The Cardinals put together a 6-0 run in the fourth set to turn a 5-2 deficit into an 8-4 lead. Gettysburg clawed back to tie the set and the teams traded points. Tied at 16-all, Baum put down back-to-back kills that ignited a 9-0 close to the match and 25-16 win.

Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) added seven kills and three digs.

Nala Shearer (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) had 14 digs in the opener and 18 in the second match. She was named to the all-tournament team for her play on the weekend.
