Gettysburg battles to draw with Shenandoah

THE FACTS
Gettysburg (4-1-2) 2, Shenandoah (1-2-3) 2
What: Non-conference women's soccer game
When: Wednesday, Sept. 17
Where: Gettysburg, Pa.

THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg scored in the first 11 minutes of both halves but both times Shenandoah had the response minutes later and two teams settled for a 2-all draw.

THE LEADERS
• Karissa Hufnagle (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) got the scoring started on the night, netting her second of the season for the Bullets.

FOR THE FOES
• Kaitlyn Wahl netted the first goal for the Hornets.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Off a throw-in on the far side, the ball came in to Elise Fox (Westfield, N.J./Westfield), who lofted a long kick into the box. Karissa Hufnagle ran on to the ball and left-footed it past the keeper for a 1-0 lead just over 10 minutes into the game. Just over three minutes, Shenandoah sent a long ball into the box. Gettysburg attempted to clear the ball but it found the feet of Kaitlyn Wahl, who fired across the goal mouth and into the left side of the net to tie the game.
• In the 54th minute, Abigail Fitzsimmons (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) sent the ball to Kylee Gust (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower Marion), who took the ball to the endline on the right side and crossed it into the box. Jane Daiutolo (Wayne, Pa./Radnor) ran through the ball and fired it into the back of the net for her team-leading fifth goal. Off a corner kick in the 60th minute, the ball got lodged in a host of players right in front of the goal and McKenna Newcome was able to toe-poke the ball over the line for the game-tying tally.

THE INSIDE STORY
• Shenandoah finished with a 13-12 edge in shots and 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
• Alex Jurow (Teaneck, N.J./Parsippany Hills) made six saves for the Bullets while Molly Donaldson had seven stops at the other end, stopping numerous Gettysburg attempts from distance in the latter portion of the game.
