THE SKINNY STORY
After winning a 26-24 opening set, Gettysburg recorded a pair of 25-18 wins to record a 3-1 victory at Catholic.
THE LEADERS

Mary Huegel (Marlboro, N.J./Colts Neck) led four Bullets with nine or more kills in the match, knocking down 10 without an error to hit .476 on the night. She also added four block solos.

Alycen Radolovic (Willoughby, Ohio/Beaumont School) paced the attack with 11 kills.

• Catholic jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first set before a
Nala Shearer (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) ace closed the set to 5-4. Trailing 7-5,
Mary Huegel knocked down a kill to start a burst of four straight points to give Gettysburg a 9-7 edge. The teams went back and forth until back-to-back
Kendall Erpenbeck (San Jose, Calif./Prospect) aces keyed a 6-0 run to open up an 18-13 lead. Trailing 24-21, the Cardinals tied the set at 24-all but
Gianna Galli (Demarest, N.J./Northern Valley Demarest) put down a kill and then joined
Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) for a block to cap the 26-24 win.
• Holding a 7-6 edge in the second set, Shearer recorded a kill and the Bullets tallied four straight points for an 11-6 lead. The advantage grew as large as 14-8 until Gettysburg tallied three of the final four points of a 25-18 victory.
• Catholic raced out to a 4-1 lead in the third set before the Bullets closed to within 5-4. The teams traded 4-0 runs before two Anna Maria Carella kills capped a 5-0 Cardinal run that opened up a 16-10 lead en route to a 25-16 victory to force a fourth set.
• Three straight Catholic errors gave Gettysburg a 5-3 edge and keyed a 9-1 run that opened up an early 10-4 advantage in the fourth set. The Cardinals got back to within 13-8 on a Tanya Sichling ace but they could get no closer the rest of the way and the Bullets wrapped up the match, 25-18.
THE INSIDE STORY

Clare Farrell (Livingston, N.J./Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Ione Petersen (Bigfork, Mont./Eagle Valley (Colo.) rounded out the quartet of leading Gettysburg attackers with 10 and nine kills, respectively.

Kendall Erpenbeck chipped in 21 assists, 11 digs and four aces.
•
Nala Shearer led the defense with 23 digs to go with seven assists and two aces.
