Johns Hopkins, ranked 24th in the latest D3hoops.com poll, needed yet another fadeaway elbow jumper to record a 58-56 win over Gettysburg in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.

• A pair of Charlie Jackson baskets in the first 90 seconds helped key a 12-7 start to the game for Johns Hopkins. A
Reece Craft (Downingtown, Pa./Devon Prep) layup with 12:43 showing made it a 12-9 game and started a back-and-forth stretch for the two teams. Two dump-down layups from Craft and a
Nate Williams (Morganville, N.J./St. John Vianney) kickout 3-pointer tied the game at 24-all with 4:12 remaining in the opening half. Trailing 29-26 on a
Caleb Gillus 3-pointer, Wyatt Eglington responded with a triple and Dan Becil hit two free throws with 21 seconds remaining for a 31-29 edge at the break.
• A Williams 3-pointer just 44 seconds into the second half gave Gettysburg a 32-31 edge before Jackson made the second of two free throws to retie the game 41 seconds later. Six straight points from the hosts reopened a 37-32 lead with 17:05 on the clock.
Ray Zamloot contributed five points as part of a 7-2 run that drew the game even at 39-all with 12:34 to play. Trailing 42-41, Eglington hit a pair of shots late in the clock for a 45-42 advantage with 8:36 on the clock. A Mess layup and Williams kickout triple, though, put the Bullets in front by two just over a minute later. Logan Feller hit both ends of a 1-and-1 to tie the game with 6:59 showing and a Jackson steal-and-dunk gave Johns Hopkins the two-point edge once again. In total, there were three ties and eight lead changes in 10 minutes. Tanti Feller gave the Blue Jay a 55-54 edge with 2:03 to play but it wasn't until 25.1 seconds were on the clock that another point was scored when Jackson hit the second of two from the line. Inbounding with 20.2 seconds left, Gillus cut the basket and scored the game-tying points with 12.5 seconds remaining. However, Eglington hit a fadeaway at the elbow with 1.5 seconds on the clock for the game-winning basket.
THE INSIDE STORY
• In total, there were 12 ties and nine lead changes in a game that neither team led by more than seven.
