THE SKINNY STORY
Bridgewater pitching tossed 14 shutout innings to key a doubleheader sweep of Gettysburg. The Eagles won the opener 7-0 before scoring three first-inning runs in game two for a 3-0 victory.
THE LEADERS
•
Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) led the Bullets with a hit in each game. She also drew a walk in game one.
FOR THE FOES
• Evelyn Rhoads had a no-hit bid spoiled to start the seventh inning, leading the Eagles in the circle with just one hit and six strikeouts. She threw just 80 pitches in the complete-game win.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• In game one, Caroline Malandra walked to lead off the bottom of the first. After she stole second, a groundout allowed her take third and score on a McKenna Mueller single through the left side for an early 1-0 Bridgewater lead.
• Mueller walked to start the home fourth before a Lily Moyers single and sacrifice put two in scoring position with one out for the Eagles. Lexi Schaaf singled home Mueller for a 2-0 lead. A two-out Andrea Savage single down the line extended the lead to 4-0.
• An Andrea Savage double with two outs in the bottom of the sixth scored pinch-runner McKenna Dayton before a Mackenzie Cauthorn single and Caroline Malandra double to left set the 7-0 final.
• In the nightcap, a throwing error and hit batter put the first two runners on base in the bottom of the first. A Mueller infield single once again staked the Eagles to an early 1-0 lead. After a sacrifice, Schaaf doubled down the line to extend the lead to 3-0 before Evelyn Rhoads shut it down in the circle.
