THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg built a 3-0 lead through five innings and staved off a late Lycoming rally for a 3-2 win.
THE LEADERS
•
Will Stellato (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) led the Bullets with a 3-for-4 day and one RBI.
•
Brendan Trotta (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) threw 5 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts for the win.
FOR THE FOES
• A.J. Liorente led the Warriors with a two-run single in the eighth.
THE REST OF THE STORY
•
Will Bercaw (Langhorne, Pa./Pennington School) led off the game with an infield single before
Robert Murphy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov. Livingston) doubled down the line to make it second and third. A
Will Stellato bunt single scored Bercaw and put runners at the corners but a strikeout and double play around a walk that loaded the bases kept it a 1-0 game.
• Murphy and Stellato singled with one out in the third before
Jack Amirata (Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy) walked to load the bases.
Dominick Balsamo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) then worked a walk to force in Murphy for a 2-0 lead.
• Murphy led off the fifth with a walk before Stellato singled up the middle. After a double steal with one out, Balsamo walked to load the bases.
Michael Fischetti (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) worked a walk with two outs for a 3-0 lead.
• With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Kaden Shay and Sean Perkins recorded back-to-back singles. A hit by pitch loaded the bases before A.J. Luorente ripped a single to center to make it 3-2. Another single reloaded the bases but a groundout kept the tying run 90 feet away. Two errors put two runners on with nobody out. However, a pair of strikeouts around a caught stealing on a double steal attempt ended the game.
