THE SKINNY STORY
Leading 5-1 over Gettysburg when lightning struck to halt game two on Tuesday, Franklin & Marshall struck with the offense right out of the resumption to record a 9-1 run-rule victory and claim the split. The Bullets won game one on Tuesday, 2-1.
THE LEADERS
•
Jamie Shaw (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg) led the Bullets with a 2-for-2 game two, adding a walk and scoring the lone run.
FOR THE FOES
• Kate DelGrippo led the Diplomat with a 3-for-3 game, adding six RBIs that included two home runs. She also pitched all five innings with three strikeouts.
THE REST OF THE STORY
• A one-out error coupled with back-to-back two-out singles from Kate DelGrippo and Ellie LoPiccolo staked Franklin & Marshall to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
• An infield single and Morgan Risnychok single put two runners on in the third. With one out, DelGrippo went deep to center field for a three-run home run and 5-0 lead.
•
Jamie Shaw led off the bottom of the inning with a four-pitch walk then moved to second on a sacrifice. On a flyout to right, Shaw took third then was able to score on an errant throw to make it 5-1.
• After a strikeout started the fourth, the game was halted for lightning. When play resumed, Natalia Garza poked a single into shallow center then made it to third when the ball got to the wall. A Risnychok fly ball to the gap found its way down for an RBI double. Lauren Steiner then traded places with her on a line drive to the fence to make it 7-1 and DelGrippo followed by putting a 3-1 pitch over the wall for a 9-1 lead.
•
Zoe Brennan (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) and Shaw both singled in the bottom of the fifth to put two runners in scoring position with one out but a pair of lineouts ended the threat.
