THE REST OF THE STORY
• Charlie Vaccaro staked Haverford to a 1-0 lead just 1:37 into the game with a rebound goal.
Jackson Hearn (Houston, Texas/Episcopal Bellaire) needed only 20 seconds to find the equalizer, converting from distance on an open cage off a failed clear.
Charlie Johnson found the back of the net for the first time off a feed from
Jackson Barroll (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) to give Gettysburg the lead for good with 11:45 on the clock.
Jacob Derwinski (Annadale, Va./Landon School [Md.]) scored in transition for the long pole's first collegiate goal. Johnson finished another solo run before Barroll found the back of the net for a 5-1 lead with 2:22 showing. Reid Tietjen made it 5-2 just before the end of the quarter.
• After Will Weinstein cut the deficit to 5-3 just over three minutes into the second,
Will Schwanke (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) started 4-1 run to the break with 10:40 on the clock.
Patrick Maroney (Hingham, Mass./Boston College H.S.) scored 25 seconds later to make it 7-4. After Hulett finished from Tietjen, a pair of Hearn-to-Johnson connections extended the lead to 9-4 at the end of a man-up situation with just over 20 seconds to play. Off a restart, Barroll found
Benny Kasoff (Leesburg, Va./Riverside) in front of the goal and the senior just beat the horn for a 10-4 halftime lead.
• Barroll scored off an
Owen McAllister (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic) pass just 2:32 into the second half for an 11-4 advantage. Hulett, Blake Donnellan and Vaccaro, however, all scored in a 3-miunte, 4-second stretch to close back to within 11-7 with 3:42 remaining in the period.
• Maroney dotted the top-right corner to make it 12-7 with 8:13 to play in the fourth before Weinstein got it back to four nearly five minutes later.
Cooper Savoy (Killingsworth, Conn./Notre Dame West Haven) got his first off the season a minute later and Johnson put the capper on it with an empty netter from 25 yards out in the final 31 seconds.
