THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg dropped just one set to start its own Battlefield Classic with a 2-0 record, defeating Marymount 3-1 and Olivet, 3-0.

THE LEADERS
Clare Farrell (Livingston, N.J./Academy of St. Elizabeth) led the Bullets with 21 kills, nine digs and four total blocks in the two matches.
Erin Gonzalez (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) chipped in 18 kills, eight aces and 24 digs.

FOR THE FOES
• Brigid Donahue led the Saints with 14 kills.
• Julia Hall paced the Comets with eight kills and seven blocks.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Two Erin Gonzalez aces helped stake Gettysburg to a 5-1 lead in the first match against Marymount. A Clare Farrell kill and Reece Benner (Royersford, Pa./Pope John Paul II) ace stretched the lead to 12-3 en route to a 25-14 opening set win.
• The Saints took advantage of three straight hitting errors and an Emerson Aber ace to build an 8-2 lead in the second set. A Halle Feth (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) ace closed the deficit to 15-13 but four straight points from Marymount pushed the lead back to 19-13 en route to a 25-17 victory.
• Two Gonzalez aces and back-to-back Farrell kills opened up an early 8-0 lead in the third set for the Bullets. Trailing 22-14, a Donohue kill started a 4-0 burst that trimmed the margin to eight. Angela McKenzie and Donahue combined for blocks on the final two points of the run. A Sabrina Schoeberlein quick call made it 24-21 before an error ended the set, 25-21.
• The fourth set featured six ties and four lead changes before Emma Bradshaw (East Setauket, N.Y./Wardville) and Ellen Manke (Madison, N.J./Morristown Beard School) alternated kills for the first four of a late 7-0 run that turned a 14-13 score into a 21-13 advantage. The Bullets finished off the match, 25-17.
• Against Olivet, Kierra Fox (Phoenix, Ariz./Rancho Solano Prep School) served 12 straight points that included three aces to build a 20-7 lead en route to a 25-12 set one win.
• The second set featured five ties but Gettysburg never trailed after a 1-0 deficit in the set. Tied at 21-all, Manke put down a kill before an error gave the hosts a two-point edge. Gonzalez and Farrell finished off the 25-22 win.
• After four early ties in the third set – the latest at 8-all, a pair of errors gave the Bullets a two-point edge. An Ava Grall (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Ponte Vedra) kill and two from Gonzalez opened up a 24-17 lead and Gettysburg won, 25-18.
