Membership
The Athletics DEI Committee is made up of a diverse group of staff, coaches, and student-athletes working together to unify and improve the campus community. This smaller group of members engage in activities focused on diversity and inclusion and take newfound knowledge back to their respective programs. It is a collaborative effort that also includes elements of the Well-Being Program.

Education and Activism
A series of educational programs for staff and student-athletes have already started this fall with more being developed in the coming weeks and months. Below are the most recent and on-going activities being undertaken by the athletics department.
  • Read - Watch - Reflect
    • Each month, the members of the Athletics DEI Committee investigate educational resources to gain more insight and knowledge on important issues being discussed in our society. All members will then reflect on the issues and take any new information gained back to their respective programs and continue to empower the campus as a whole.
  • A Long Talk About the Uncomfortable Truth
    • Working with the non-profit organization Decide2Inspire, College administrators, staff, coaches, and students engaged in a three-week educational program to talk about the history of systemic racism in America and acceptable ways to pursue individual and cooperative activism.
  • Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI)
    • The Intercultural Development Inventory assesses intercultural competence—the capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt behavior to cultural differences and commonalities. Intercultural competence has been identified as a critical capability in a number of studies focusing on overseas effectiveness of international sojourners, international business adaptation and job performance, international student adjustment, international transfer of technology and information, international study abroad, and inter-ethnic relations within nations. The Intercultural Development Inventory is a 50-item questionnaire available online that can be completed in 15–20 minutes.
  • Gettysburg Battlefield Tour
    • Led by Associate Professor of History and Africana Studies Scott Hancock, members of the athletics department will proceed to the nearby battlefield to gain additional insight into the causes behind the great battle and the backstory on some of the monuments marking both Union and Confederate factions.
