HOBOKEN, N.J. – After becoming the men's lacrosse program's first ever Division III Player of the Year this season, senior long-stick midfielder Tommy Kehoe (Coraopolis, Pa./Sewickley Academy) established another first on Wednesday.

Kehoe was drafted by the Chicago Machine of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor professional lacrosse league in the United States, at Stevens Instiute of Technology to become the first Bullet ever drafted by the MLL.

He was the 37th overall pick, the Machine's fourth pick, and the No. 1 overall pick of the fifth round.

The MLL's draft is composed of five rounds totaling 42 individual selections.

The MLL was founded in 2001 and is comprised of six teams located in Boston, Chicago, Denver, Long Island, Toronto, and Washington, D.C. It opened its ninth year of competition on May 15, and its season consists of 36 regular season games running from May to August. The season will culminate with the New Balance MLL Championship Weekend, which will take place August 22-23 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md.

The Machine has split the first two games of its 12-game schedule, defeating Denver 13-11 in its season opener before falling 15-11 to Toronto. Nine of the team's remaining games are played on Saturdays, with one scheduled for a Sunday.

Two former Gettysburg players have appeared in the MLL. Pete Milliman '02 played for the Rochester Rattlers from 2006-08, helping the team win the league title in 2008, and Steve Koudelka '93 played for the New Jersey Pride in 2001-02.

Kehoe is coming off a senior season in which he guided the Bullets to the NCAA Division III national championship game and won the Iroquois National Award as the Division III Player of the Year. He was also named the Division III Long Pole Midfielder of the Year and earned his second straight all-America award, capturing a spot on the first team after earning second-team honors in 2008.

For the season, Kehoe gathered 64 ground balls and was credited with 25 caused turnovers, finishing second on the Bullets in both categories. He was also a four-time All-Centennial Conference selection, grabbing first-team recognition in each of the last three years and capturing second-team honors for Franklin & Marshall College in 2005.

Gettysburg finished 16-4 and concluded the season ranked No. 5 nationally. The Bullets national title game appearance was the third in program history and the first since 2002. Along the way, Gettysburg reeled off a school record-tying 14-game winning streak, won its sixth straight Centennial Conference title, and defeated two different top-ranked teams on the road.
